FULL SCHOOL CHOICE
FAIR REPRESENTATION
AND FEDERALISM
For many families, the closest public school works perfectly well. Others, however, are not so fortunate. If, for any reason, a parent believes the public school system is not adequately meeting their child’s needs, that family should be provided a lifeboat to pursue other options outside the public system. Families of low or middle income need help, and they need it now.
A republican form of government uses democratic elections to create representation and accountability. Electoral districts ensure broad representation, while single-member districts reward inclusivity and coalition building. One American structure that does this particularly well is the Electoral College, which we defend in states across the country.
END THE PENALTY ON WORK
It’s well past time to end our state’s immoral penalty on work—the state personal income tax. This is ultimately the only way to truly diversify our state’s economy for everyone, regardless of this or that industry. You shouldn’t have to pay your state’s tax collectors a penalty for the privilege of working at any job.
SENSIBLE CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM
It has become too easy in too many places to put people in jail or prison who really shouldn’t be there. It’s not hard to see how such power could be abused. At the same time, we must ensure that murderers, child predators, domestic abusers and other violent and dangerous convicts stay behind bars.
REFORM THE JUDICIARY
Take the appointments process for selecting justices and judges for our state’s highest courts out of the hands of unelected individuals and put it back closer to the hands of the voters. The Governor, whichever political party he or she may be a part of, should have the ability to appoint whomever he or she deems most qualified, with state Senate confirmation.
